Telstra Global, a leading provider of managed network services and international data, voice and satellite services, has embarked upon a considerable investment in upgrading its London Hosting Centre (LHC) ? Docklands with the latest cutting edge energy saving technologies.
The new upgrades will reduce the LHC?s power demands by 10 per cent and its annual cooling costs by up to 40 per cent. The upgrades include power supply and cooling enhancements, together with voltage optimisation. The LHC?s 13 UPS (uninterruptable power supply) systems have been replaced with new modular APCPX500 systems offering 96% efficiency. The LHC will also be fitted with 106 super high efficiency precision Stulz DFUs (down flow cooling units), which are 40 per cent more efficient than the existing cooling units and deliver conditioned air into a raised floor void for distribution.
The LHC will also benefit from a new voltage optimisation system to achieve savings on cooling costs.? As part of an ongoing initiative to reduce its carbon emissions intensity, Telstra Global is planning further energy saving enhancements, including the fitting of cold air containment.
Telstra Global?s Director ? Global Hosting Centres, Mr Kevin Sell believes that the enhancements will make a considerable contribution to Telstra?s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions.
?Other initiatives by Telstra Global include the use of power from renewable sources, energy efficient light fittings and the adoption of low carbon information and communications technologies (ICT) solutions such as telepresence,? Mr Sell said.
Telstra Global actively seeks to minimise and manage the environmental impact of its operations and offerings. Its policy includes:
- Monitoring and complying with environmental laws, standards and practices
- Managing its activities to help prevent or minimise pollution
- Striving to improve resource consumption efficiency and minimise waste generation in its operations and through the life cycle of its products
- Investigate and implement mutually beneficial programmes of environmental management with governments, external stakeholders and customers
- Setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets
- Monitoring and reporting its environmental progress.
Telstra Global?s portfolio of Global Data Centres provide flexible capacity, high security and robust performance to its customers in key locations covering 400,000 sq ft across Europe, Asia and Australasia.
