Dakota came to Longmeadow in March 2008. She had never been handled by people before. She is now easy to catch and lead. She is still learning to trust the farrier to let him pick up her feet for trimming.
Dakota was trained for riding by Longmeadow's horse trainer. She is a very quiet horse with a rider. We think she has potential to be a horse for a beginner. Dakota is a completely different horse than when she arrived. She now loves people. The farrier is still not her favorite person but she is learning with practice that he is her friend as well. She is still a green trained horse and anyone who adopts her will have to continue her training. She has great jumping skills and really loves to jump. Her training could be finished as a pony hunter jumper. She is very cute with big expressive eyes.
Dakota leg yields, backs, shoulders-in, crosses under and over obstacles and loves to be ridden. She is used to gentle bit pressure and has only bucked in the past when a rider has been too hard on her mouth. We always remind adopters of young and horses in training that you will need to continue your horses training. They are constantly learning and will learn bad habits as easily as learning the good.
